General Tree Work (GTW)
Pruning
Pruning for trees and shrubs is needed for a variety of reasons. Pruning needs for trees are determined based on the tree age, size, species, condition and location on site. Structural or juvenile pruning, crown cleaning, crown thinning, crown reduction, hazard pruning, crown raising (clearance pruning), and shaping can benefit trees. “Pocket” pruning, shaping, rejuvenation pruning and hedge trimming all have their uses with shrub care.
Tree Removal
Tree removals are often done to reduce hazards or to make space for new construction. People, roadways and structures represent potential targets. If a tree must be removed, either manually or by crane, minimizing site disturbance and the potential for injury is paramount. Careful execution requires trained and experienced arborists on the job.
Tree Planting
Trees serve many functions in our landscape. They provide shade and buffer wind for buildings, they create visual screening and abate noise. Trees attract wildlife, filter pollutants from the air and soil and create architectural as well as recreational enjoyment. Tree selection is not random. Having the right tree for the right location and site conditions is important.
Cabling and Bracing
Trees with poor branch structure, cavities or decay, overweight or unbalanced canopies or unusual wind exposure may benefit from support cables or brace rods. Certain species of trees are more prone to mechanical failure than others. Each tree and site history is unique and must be evaluated accordingly.
Stump Removal
Stumps can be unsightly and prohibit effective use of the landscape or garden. Removal involves grinding with a machine that pulverizes the wood into a finely shredded mulch. Mulch can be removed and turf or plants put in its place.
