Lightning Protection Lightning protection systems are used to reduce the risk of damage to trees from lightning strikes and side-strikes. This is accomplished by installing a copper wire cable (conductor) from the top of the tree to the base and then to a grounding rod installed in the ground. This system will direct the charge from a lightning strike to a tree into the ground, reducing the risk of damage to the tree, and possibly nearby property. These systems should be installed to any tree near your home or property or in any significant landscape or specimen tree.
